The captured video quality is extremely good, with brighter colors and better contrast than typical DV captures. Movies on VHS and DVD are captured at the best rates, approaching or sustaining the maximum rates possible. Generally the cleaner and less active the source, the better the frame rate that will be captured. The actual frame rate captured varies with the video source. The maximum frame size is 352 x 240 for NTSC and 352 x 288 for PAL. The USBVision software is capable of capturing a maximum of 29.97 frames per second for NTSC or 25 frames per second for PAL.

MacUpdate Desktop is $20 per year, with a 10-day free trial. After all, one dead link and the functionality goes out the window. This is not uncommon for applications like this. Although DropBox downloaded and installed very quickly, HotSpot Shield never even downloaded. I used HotSpot Shield and DropBox to test this feature. I noticed that whenever I clicked on an App, a new pane appeared that showed all the changes in the new version (or changelog). It highlighted in red all the Apps that were outdated. MacUpdate Desktop connected to its servers and it downloaded program descriptions for most of my apps and both the current versions and the ones I had. So I looked into the menus and clicked on "Check for Updates". It didn't include any information about the current versions, or anything like that, which I knew it had to. When I first run the app, it listed all my Apps, Widgets, Screen Savers, Preference Panes, Plug-ins, etc.

The application has a very extensive app database, which it uses to compare the most current versions of apps against the software installed on your Mac. It is not unlike Mac Informer, in most regards. MacUpdate Desktop is an app that allows you to keep your software updated.
